Alabama Chess Clubs 

The TeachMeChess Chess Club meets Wednesday nights 5:30pm-9pm as well as Saturday Mornings 11am-4pm at Panera Bread on Airport Blvd.  Click here for directions.   We are also meeting now at Dr. Java on Thursday nights 5:30-close.  For more information, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it at (251) 623-2228.

 

The Fairhope Chess Club meets Thursdays from 7pm-9pm at St. James Episcopal Church, 860 N. Section Street. Contact Tim Yahr (251) 964-6151 or Valerie Hodgson (251) 928-0727 for more information.

 

The Huntsville Chess Club generally meets twice a week.  Monday night meetings are at the Coffee Tree Books and Brew, 7900 Bailey Cove Rd, across the street from Grissom High School.  Nominal meeting times are 6 to 10:30.  Friday night meetings are held from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Brahan Springs Recreation Center on Ivy just north of Drake Avenue (behind the Senior Center).  Fridays include special programs geared toward scholastic players.  Please visit the club's web site for more details.

 

The Birmingham Chess Club meets Monday nights 7:00 - 10:00 at the Birmingham Bridge Club.  Directions are on their site.   This is a new club with a great website!  It deserves some support!

 

The Birmingham-UAB Chess Club generally meets Tuesday evenings on campus, room #402 in the Campbell Hall at 7pm.  

 

Monday Night Chess is a weekly activity of the Birmingham Chess Club
Rated chess 1 round a week tournaments at Bridge Club, 2112 Columbiana Road, Vestavia, Alabama. Come play USCF rated 1 round a week, G/75 or G/90 time controls. Mon nights 6:30, games start at 7:15. Richard Ellis 256-979-6068. 

 

The Auburn University chess club is up and running. Meetings are generally Tuesday nights while school is in session, at the Foy Student Union on campus.  Please contact Scott Varagona for details.

 

The Maxwell/Gunter Montgomery Chess Club generally meets Thursday nights on base at Gunter AFS.

The Cullman County Chess Club meets Saturdays every Saturday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at a coffee house called Berkeley Bob's. Their address is: 304 1st Ave SE, Cullman, AL 35055

 

Mississippi Clubs

Hattiesburg Chess Club meets Sundays 4pm-Close (11pm) at the Java Works Coffee Shop, located Hardy Street across from University of Southern Mississippi.
